It has been interesting to think about Education particularly education in the Western world and the relationship to stress. Education seems to rely on stress as there are always deadlines. Most of us spend nearly two decades of our lives in formal education. The constant stressors are homework, oral presentations, essays, peer pressure, tests, end-of-term exams, social responsibility projects, performance on the sports fields and end-of-year exams. Often the performance goals academically are used as motivators or stressors to improve performance as this will affect our careers and the rest of our lives. Stress is a built in motivator in the education system. Stress is meant to be a short term response to danger and Education is meant to be a long term strategy for a lifetime of benefit. The result of using a short term motivator in a long term strategy creates conflicts that result in bad habits, ill health, depression and a variety of other symptoms that negatively affect us and the generations of the future.
It was a really exciting part of my education when I learnt about HeartMath and started applying the techniques in my own life, with my children and started teaching the HeartMath techniques at my child’s kindergarten school to the Principals, teachers and the parents who noticed the positive shift that was happening.
It is exciting to be launching this website with HeartMath SA and helping those who will be the leaders, parents and people of the future.
